Ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) is a picture that drew people's life and things etc. of daily life of Edo period. Word "Ukiyo" is a word that means "floating world".
In general, Ukiyo-e often imagines the wood block of a multi color printing (color print), and the original painting etc. are included.
Because it was a print, a lot of ukiyoes were able to be finished printing. Ukiyo-e played the role of the cut-in illustration of the tile book print (newspaper) it ..Csacsashi and the picture scroll...
Scenery, kabuki actor, sumo wrestling, taking or prostitute's portrait etc. were portrayed in Ukiyo-e. There are a lot of one that hits a modern cartoon with caricatured element, too.
It had a big influence on the impressionist school by having turned showing friends 'Hokusai cartoon' whose painter Blackmon in France was wrapping paper of earthenware in 1865.
It is famous that Gogh draws Ukiyo-e in the background of the work 'Tongue ghee grandpa', copies Hiroshige's picture in the oil painting, and Ukiyo-e influences 'Boy who blows the whistle' of Mane.
